“Toughness is in the soul and spirit, not in muscles.” – Alex Karras
Meet Mr. Kenny Easterday, World’s Strongest Man (at least in my point of view… reason? later!)
Because, his whole body ends at his waist and who walks on his hands.
35 year old Kenny Easterday is an American man born with a rare disability called sacral agenesis (a rare condition that prevented his spine from developing correctly). To improve his mobility, his legs were amputated at the hip when he was only a baby, but that hasn’t stopped him from living life to the fullest – a rich happy life, regardless of his handicap.
As a child, he was offered a pair of prosthetic legs, but he didn’t really find them very useful, so he always used his hands, or a skateboard, to get around. As a kid Kenny starred in the 1988 film, The Kid Brother, a dramatized version of his early life.
Kenny’s dad pretty much taught him how to walk on his hands.
Although he wasn’t expected to reach the age of 21, Kenny not only beat the odds, but enjoyed life, in the process. He learned to play pool, bowl, work, and even make love to his fiancee, Nikki.
To top things off, the happy couple was waiting for confirmation that Desiree, their 7-year-old daughter, is actually Kenny’s daughter.
Kenny became the focus of a special show on TLC titled “The Man with Half a Body”. On the show, Kenny would find out if he is the father of one of the 2 children of his fiancee. The show aired on Easter Day, April 4, 2010. Kenny’s deepest desire is to father his own child and takes a DNA test to confirm his suspicions that he is the biological father to one of his fiances two children. ‘I want a child to carry my name, someone that can carry my legacy and be able to say well that’s my daddy’, he said.
Here’s that tear jerking documentary of Mr. Kenny… (Summarizing his whole life under 2 minutes)
But… sadly, during the special show, the paternity results came back and have shown that Kenny is not the biological father of Nikki’s daughter, Desiree. However, he still considers Desiree, “his girl” and Dylan, “his boy”.
Mr. Kenny might only have half a body, but to accept, overcome, and manage with such a disability takes real guts, strength, will power. What a man. Every one in this world who’s whining about life isn’t fair should take a look at this man’s life. He truly deserves infinite wishes from all of us for all the things he has been through and still is able to just get on with his life. A great role model/inspiration to us all!
As Mark Twain once said, the power which a man’s imagination has over his body to heal it or make it sick is a force which none of us are born without. Mr. Kenny had that special power.
One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure its worth watching. Never complain about your life. Whenever you catch yourself complaining, visualize Mr. Kenny’s story, take a leaf out of his book and imagine yourself uprooting it and throwing it away. Say to yourself, “I hold the seed of happiness.”
Complaining may be a compelling addiction, but it needn’t be a life sentence.
What do you say?
